At Tech Camp 2012 participants can choose to spend one, two, or even three weeks working with people from industry, NH schools and the university in each of the STEM areas. Registration opens mid January 2012.
Engineeristas: Exploring Engineering for Girls: This one week camp will be filled with engaging hands-on, problem solving activities and related field trips. Each day a different aspect of engineering will be explored and instructed by female engineers and staff. This week is geared to female campers entering grades 6 & 7 with limited science and engineering background.
Tuition - $350 | Residential Option additional $350 | Register
Weeks Two & Three: Engineering Explorations & Projects: During the first week, each camper will be exposed to a variety of engineering areas with hands-on activities and related field experiences. During the second week, campers will select a project in their area of interest to develop. On the final day, there will be opportunities to share work with families and fellow campers. This camp is geared to campers who are interested in an exciting engineering experience. There will be two sessions running concurrently with some shared activities – one for campers entering grades 7 & 8 and one for campers entering grades 9 & 10.

|---|---|---|
| Topic(s) | Instructor(s) | Description |
| 3D Prototyping | John DeRosa | Campers will deconstruct a rapid prototyping machine and reconstruct it. They will use software to create a 3D prototype and will write a program that will result in a completed 3D object. |
| Solar Printmaking | Roger Hyndman | (intaglio) is a highly versatile and expressive medium. You will learn how to artistically interpret scientific and natural images, original drawings, photographs, JPEG'S, and copier art; and how to transfer your image into an etching. Working with a steel plate you will use UV light to etch the plate directly in the sun. Learn how to develop the plate with ordinary tap water, and how to print your image as an artist with an intaglio press. The focus will be upon problem solving and your creativity, utilizing a variety of creative techniques, printmaking practices, and the professional tools of the printmaker. |
| Sea Perch | Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Team | Teams will build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). They will test their ROV in the UNH pool and make innovations to enhance performance and maneuverability. |
| Animated Filmmaking | Margo Burns | A team produced animated film where campers will work collaboratively on writing a script, choosing characters to include, recording voices and sound effects, designing digital backgrounds and sets, animating characters' movements and dialog, selecting camera angles within the virtual 3D set, and rendering a finished film. |
