Serra de Capivara (Pedra Furada), Brazil 50,000 Year Old Rock Paintings

 

Program Description:

Pedra Furada in the Serra de Capivara, Piaui, Brazil is a major archaeological zone that is affecting theories of pre-historic settlement of the Western Hemisphere. This presentation includes images of the mesa where the rock overhangs were painted with thousands of images 30,000 to 50,000 years ago.

Frank McCann

Frank McCann, Ph.D., Indiana U., Bloomington, is a professor emeritus of history at the University of New Hampshire. His research focuses on Brazilian and Spanish-American history, U.S. relations with Latin America, and native peoples of the Americas.
