Building Campus Community
New Faculty Reception
New faculty members join the president and provost for a reception after their orientation as an opportunity for new faculty to meet members of the University administration, network with colleagues and other new faculty, and be introduced to aspects of the UNH community outside of their departments.
State of the University Address
The Office of University Events and Programs (UEP) coordinates the annual State of the University address every fall for the University president. The address is the president’s opportunity to recap the previous year’s accomplishments and outline the administration's goals for the coming year.
The campus community, along with the surrounding communities of Durham, Lee, and Madbury, are invited in early September to gather on the lawn of Thompson Hall to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year with a picnic and outdoor festivities. The picnic includes the Student Activities Fair that encourages students to get involved in campus life by registering with student organizations. In addition, various UNH departments promote and highlight projects of public interest.
International Community Reception
UEP collaborates with the Office of International Students and Scholars to coordinate this annual fall event that brings together members of UNH’s international community. It is an opportunity to meet members of the administration and learn about the resources available to help in the transition to UNH.
Holiday Skating Party
Faculty, staff, families, and Durham residents gather in the Whittemore Center Arena each December for a skating party hosted by the University president. The party helps build a sense of community and offers a venue to share the holiday spirit with friends and coworkers. The event also serves as a learning lab for students enrolled in the Hospitality Management Program. Students help in every aspect of event planning and marketing, including Web site design and execution.
