This is the first week back on campus and I could not be any happier about it! I loved reuniting with all my friends after five long weeks and was excited to start a new semester of different classes, professors, and routines. And there was no better way to ring in a new semester like below freezing temperatures! Despite the extremely low temperatures on campus on January 23rd and 24th, we all managed to fight through yet another typical New England weather pattern in addition to the crazy fall happenings including a hurricane and minor earthquake.
My friends and I began to lighten the mood by adding in our own sense of humor to what seems like a second Ice Age. We instantly knew what the new fashion statement was when we walked into a warm building from the chilly outdoors and it often consisted of red cheeks, runny noses, and watery eyes in addition to the multiple layers of warm clothes covering as many skin surfaces as possible. We would challenge ourselves when walking the campus to find the shortest routes between buildings. We also noticed the campus buses (Wildcat Transit) were much more crowded than usual! My favorite part of the cold spell was that a friend of mine on campus from Florida celebrated her birthday on the 24th! She definitely experienced a different birthday by attending college in New Hampshire, but she claimed she still loved it!
Although having a few extra goose bumps this week, it still felt great to be back on campus for another semester. I missed everyone a lot and now we’re all getting back into a new routine with our different schedules.
