The Hidden Gems of UNH

The Hidden Gems of UNH

Many might not know the few gems hidden around campus for students like cheap movie tickets for students or there’s a garden you can walk through. This past week, however, I happened to stumble across one that I found really interesting- The UNH Art Museum.

The museum is free and open at pretty convenient hours, in fact its located right in one of the buildings next to classes. Odd place, perhaps, for an Art Museum, but it is apart of the Paul Creative Arts Center, so think of it as a muse or inspiration while students walk by. No, the museum has no Michelangelo, no Picasso, nor does it have any Kandinsky, however it does have incredible artists of the modern world. Names from all over are displayed beneath their artwork, some reminding the audience that the artist lives in New Hampshire. Its a beautiful, free exhibit and the public is welcome! What astonished me was that I had never heard of the museum! True, it was hidden in a building surrounded by art history and sculpting classes, but why hadn’t anyone said “Hey if you are bored this weekend, there’s a free Art Museum in PCAC!”

Since learning of the museums existence, I would encourage anyone to use it to their advantage. Go there to relax or look, bring friends or family, and maybe even use the resources to write about an art piece. Whatever the reason, the Art Museum is one of the many hidden gems around the UNH campus and its definitely a great spot to check out. There are two floors to meander about, and plenty to look at and consider; the museum definitely has what you’re looking for if you don’t have the money to go out and take your girlfriend on a date.
