Last Friday, the Pre-Orientation Volunteer Experience in Service (PrOVES) staff and it’s members continued their love of community service by hosting a Halloween party in the Memorial Union Building for residents of the Riverside Nursing Home, located in nearby Dover, NH. We all wore Halloween costumes, with plenty of activities, such as Halloween cookie decorating, various board games, and Halloween Bingo, which was definitely the highlight of the party! Everyone had such a great time because we reunited as a group, including many senior citizens we met last summer.
PrOVES is a great opportunity offered at UNH through the Office of First Year Programs. First year students who sign up for the program move in five days prior to the official UNH move-in day and participate in local community service projects and activities throughout the week. What I loved most about the PrOVES program was that we all shared a common love for community service and helping others. More importantly, we all bonded so well and became a family, all 72 first year students and 15 staff members! And it was all before our fellow classmates moved onto campus! I would recommend this program to any future incoming freshmen. Participating in PrOVES was the experience of a lifetime.
