Alumni Tale: Mikki Ekfelt ’10

What did you study at UNH?

Communications major, business minor, English minor

What were you doing one year out of college?

My first year out of college was a year for personal growth. Graduating in the midst of a terrible recession and severe lack of jobs nationwide was challenging and scary. Graduating felt like being wrenched away from the safety of my cocoon that was UNH.

The first few months was strictly job hunting until I found my first job three months after graduating. My first job out of college was so not me and I left after only three months. However, what I found important about this step was finding out what I did not like to do and stepping back to re-evaluate what I wanted my career to be. About six-eight months post-graduation, I was finally honest with myself and was able to find a career path that I was excited about and happy to do every day.

What are you doing now?

I am a Realtor in the Seacoast N.H. area

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

UNH helped me grow to be more independent, taught me to break out of my comfort zone, and to take on challenges, meet new people, and prove yourself wrong about your own capabilities. UNH made me a more confident person and prepared me to take on the world.

Why do you believe in UNH?

UNH is a part of my identity. It did limitless things for my personal growth and helped me discover my true sense of self. I owe a great to deal to my education and time at UNH.
