Alumni Tale: Marc Fortier ’95

What did you study at UNH?

History and French

What were you doing one year out of college?

I was working as a reporter at Foster’s Daily Democrat in good old Dover, N.H., covering the University of New Hampshire and a handful of area towns.

What were you doing five years out of college?

I was a reporter at the Salem News in Beverly, Mass., covering politics and just about everything else happening in the city.

What were you doing 10 years out of college?

By that point I believe I was just making the transition from reporter to editor, still working at the Salem News.

What are you doing now?

I’m the digital director at NECN in Newton, Mass., overseeing the website, mobile apps and social media accounts. I still get to write a fair amount, too, which I enjoy.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

I always tell people that I grew up at UNH. It basically taught me how to be a responsible adult. And though I never took a journalism course while at UNH (I wish I had!) I feel I was really able to hone my writing skills through some of the history and English courses I took during my time there.

Why do you believe in UNH?

It’s a really amazing community and a great environment to grow in. I learned a lot and had a great time during my four years in Durham, and would recommend it to anyone.
