Alumni Tale: Jon Giegengack ’93

What did you study at UNH?

English major, Business minor

What were you doing 1 year out of college?

I was the 50th employee at Newmarket International in Portsmouth. I got my job when the then-CFO (also an alum) spoke at one of my business classes. My first job was in the accounting department, doing billing and collections.

What were you doing 10 years out of college?

10 years after graduation I was working in market research. I worked for CMB, a research company in Boston, doing consumer research for clients like eBay, Facebook, Electronic Arts and MTV.

What are you doing now?

In 2013 I started a company called Hub Entertainment Research. We publish research on technology and entertainment: data and trends on how consumers find, consume, and pay for entertainment content. Our clients include Netflix, Comcast, Disney, HBO, Hulu, Sony Pictures, AMC, and Warner Brothers. Our headquarters is in Portsmouth and we have employees in Boston, New York, and Seattle.

We do lots of work among entertainment consumers outside the U.S. in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Why do you believe in UNH?

UNH gave me a tremendous opportunity to grow as a person, discover my talents, and figure out what I wanted to do with my life. It also gave me a network of friendly and motivated alumni to help me act upon those goals once I had them in mind. Last but not least – it introduced me to a beautiful part of the country to live and have as my home base.
