Alumni Tale: Hillary Flanagan ’14

What did you study at UNH?

Business Administration – Marketing and International Business and Economics

Did you have an international experience (study, research, internship or volunteer abroad) while at UNH?

I studied abroad while I was a junior in the Peter T. Paul School of Business and Economics. I did a UNH approved program that went to Budapest, Hungary.  While I was there, I traveled to over 10 different countries, met some amazing entrepreneurs, friends, and mentors. I plan on going back to Budapest and investing in real estate.

What were you doing 1 year out of college?

I was working for UNH Communications and Public Affairs as a social media specialist. I was part of the wonderful team that manages this very site: #UNHSocial. I have never had so much fun while working in my life. I always knew I loved UNH, but that job made it concrete.

What are you doing now?

I now work for Unitil, a New England utility company, in digital communications and social media. I owe everything I know to what I learned at UNH as a student and as an employee. I still remain in the UNH family in a small way by helping to facilitate UNH class notes for the alumni magazine.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

UNH has shaped me to who I am today and has even influenced where I live currently. UNH made me fall in love with the New Hampshire seacoast and ultimately led me to live in Portsmouth, NH. UNH allowed me to have the most valuable experience of studying abroad. I owe everything that I have today to UNH. I wouldn’t be the same person today if I hadn’t listened to my guidance counselor back in high school when she told me to apply.

Why do you believe in UNH?

I believe in UNH because they believed in me. It is rare to be able to say that an alum can call their old professor after a couple years and pick up on a conversation like they never left. I will forever love UNH and I will forever #BleedBlue.
