Alumni Tale: David Boynton ’03

What did you study at UNH?

Outdoor Education

What were you doing 1 year out of college?

I owned a kayak shop and adventure school in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. I was just getting married to my college sweetheart and starting our life together.

What were you doing 5 years out of college?

I was the director of a large adventure camp and outdoor education center in Virginia. I was also surviving cancer and heading back to grad school.

What were you doing 10 years out of college?

I was starting a community supported brewery and farm-to-table restaurant. I’m the proud co-founder of 7th Settlement Brewery in Dover, N.H.

What are you doing now?

I’m managing co-owner at 7th Settlement Brewery, actively involved in Seacoast Local, a local economy movement non-profit, and looking forward to a fun future. I’m learning to fly and get my private pilot license and keeping up with outdoor adventure activities with my wife and dog.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

The amazing professors and community at UNH taught me that life and work both have to be enjoyable and challenging; and that continual learning is the key to success. The road less traveled is truly more exciting and worth living.
