What did you study at UNH?
What were you doing 1 year out of college?
A year after graduation, I was returning home from a six month trip traveling the west coast with my best friend, who I just happened to meet at UNH. I was dreading applying for jobs, scared I wouldn’t find one, and clueless on what my future held. I was waitressing to pay the bills and applying endlessly to any Analyst job I could get my hands on. Thankfully, a lucky Craigslist ad supplied me with my first “real world” job at a boutique consulting firm as a business analyst in Cambridge, MA.
What were you doing 5 years out of college?
Five years out of college I decided to make the switch from a small consulting firm to something bigger, where my career path was clearly defined and I had the tools available to reach for the stars. I joined a larger consulting firm, Slalom Consulting, where culture, employee happiness, and a healthy work life balance was stressed and accepted. By this time, I was successfully running a personal style blog, Allie Wears, that served as my creative outlet alongside consulting. My blog won the title of Boston’s Best Fashion Blog and I continued to grow my brand, collaborating with local and global brands and designers. I was lucky enough to sign a modeling contract with Boston’s top modeling agency where I was modeling for the works of Ford and Disney. I felt like the world was at my fingertips and I was going nowhere but up.
What are you doing now?
Fast forward a year, I am lucky enough to be transferring within Slalom to their Southern California office. Relocating to California is a dream of mine that I’ve had since I visited the west coast in 2010. I will be given the opportunity to continue broadening my consulting skills and experience, while reaching a totally new market in regards to my blog’s readership. I am excited at the idea of constant sunshine, a new way of living, and the chance to make new friends and new memories.
How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?
UNH showed me that I am capable of anything. I never thought I would enroll into college as a Civil Engineering student and graduate with a Mathematics degree. I never thought that a Mathematics degree would lead me to a career in consulting at one of the best consulting firms in the country, or lead me to be running one of Boston’s best fashion blogs. I never thought I’d be able to live such an active social life while maintaining three demanding jobs. I am my own biggest mascot and if I don’t chase my dreams, no one else will.
Why do you believe in UNH?
I believe in UNH because UNH believed in me. I will never forget the endless hours both professors and fellow students put in to help me succeed. It was a constant reminder, whether vocalized or not, that I am capable of absolutely anything.
