Brian Mehr is in his 9th year of coaching. He started rowing at the University of Rhode Island, rowing all four years and graduating with a degree in Computer Engineering in 1999. In his junior year, he was a member of the Varsity Heavyweight 8, which made the finals of the New England Championships and went on to win Silver at the ‘98 Dad Vail. His senior year, he stroked the Varsity Heavyweight 4 which reached the finals of the ‘99 Dad Vail. Brian served as team treasurer his junior year and team President his Senior Year. Also during his senior year, he earned the award for Most Valuable Oarsman.

After graduation, he was the interim varsity men's coach at the University of Rhode Island. The next year, he moved from URI to take the position of Freshman Men's Coach at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst for the 2000/2001 season. The 1st and 2nd Freshman Heavyweight 8+’s won the 2001 New England Championships and finished fourth and third respectively at the Avaya Collegiate National Championship (now ECAC). During those two summers, Brian coached Junior Women at Narragansett Boat Club (NBC) in Providence, RI.

From UMass and NBC, he moved to UNH in the fall of 2001 taking the position of Interim Varsity Men's Coach. He coached the varsity men to a 5th place finish at the New England Championships and qualified for the ECAC National Regatta. Brian took the position of Freshman Men's Coach in 2002. Brian’s crews have reached the finals of the highly competitive New England Rowing Championships every year. In 2005, the 1st Freshman 8 won Bronze and the 2nd Freshman 8 won Silver.

Also in 2005, Brian completed his Master’s of Business Administration under the Whittemore School of Business and Administration. While in graduate school full-time, he served as the Graduate Assistant to the Sport Club program. Brian currently works at UNH in the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration. This is Brian's first year as the Assistant Coach for Women's Rowing.
