Morris Darling '78

Morris Darling (’78) was lost to Lymphoma at age 36, but his impact on the UNH Crew continues. His family created an endowment that we use every few years to purchase oars for the teams, and are currently letting accrue to allow us to acquire small boats. Additionally, by incorporating remembrances from his teammates, we created an award that recognizes current rowers who come close to personifying Morris’ exceptional spirit and enthusiasm. Because his teammates were so strongly universal in describing his exceptional nature, we reserve the award for only those who make a highly exemplary contribution to UNH Rowing. Certainly everyone who rows at UNH makes a strong contribution to the team, so it is often difficult to pick people who deserve the award. We attempt to remain true to Morris’ spirit and give the award to the rower who exhibits uniquely special traits that benefit the team through a combination of enthusiasm, positive attitude and helpfulness – generally the all-around outstanding member of a team of outstanding people receives the award.
