Allison Caplin ’13
Undeclared Liberal Arts
Hillsborough County, N.H.
Allie Caplin enrolled as an undeclared student in the College of Liberal Arts, but, inspired by a fall anatomy class, she’s considering a switch to the College of Health and Human Services and a possible career as an occupational therapist. This spring, she’ll be taking a class called Exploring Occupational Therapy to better gauge her interest in the major.
Her favorite class of her first semester was an Honors section of introductory psychology, taught by Richard Kushner. “The small class size allowed for great class discussions, and Professor Kushner was so enthusiastic and passionate about the subject matter,” she says.
Outside of class, Caplin has enjoyed broomball—a popular UNH club sport played on ice—flag football, and attending UNH hockey games. “UNH is the perfect size for me, and I love being able to be away at college while still being close to home,” she says.
Like many of her fellow Hamel Scholars, the Hamel family’s support was a factor in her decision to attend her state university. “It means a lot to me to receive the Hamel scholarship,” she says. “I’m excited about the idea of connecting with a small group of people and really being able to make a difference.”
