Undergraduate Research Awards (URAs)

Undergraduate Research Awards (URAs) are awarded to students who wish to conduct research either on campus or at other research sites within the United States during the academic year (including January term), or in the summer.  If you plan to pursue research for academic credit, you may apply to the center for an expense award (only) to help defray costs incurred in carrying out your project. If you don’t need or desire academic credit for your research project, you may also apply to the center for a stipend to be paid directly to you as salary for the time spent working on the research project. In this latter case, you may receive an expense award and a stipend for the same project.

Expense awards: Range up to $600, but do not necessarily cover all research expenses. The size of the award is based on expenses detailed in your budget form, and funds available through the Hamel Center.

Stipend awards: Range up to $1000 per project. The Hamel Center pays stipends on the basis of actual work hours spent on your project. Stipends should be computed at $8.00/hour. A maximum stipend of $1000 equals 125 hours of work on your project.
