How did you prepare for your internship search? What were some of the steps in your preparation, i.e. fine tune resume, cover letter, attend internship fair, etc.?
I prepared for my internship by talking with faculty and administrators about the type of internships that I was looking for. I
also received advice from those people about internship in other fields that I was interested in.
What was the one thing you did in your internship search that helped you get the opportunity you wanted?
The one thing that helped me the most was asking faculty and administrators about specific internships. I also attended internship fairs and checked UNH MonsterTRAK for opportunities.
What three things would you tell your peers they need to do so they find and secure a great internship?
I would tell my peers to talk with their faculty, because they will provide them with the information that they would need to get a great internship. Go to internship fairs and job fairs and meet with representatives from all types of companies. Also, apply for as many internships as you can so that you have different options to explore.
Talk about the benefits of networking, timely follow-ups, and being proactive in your search. What did you learn from your internship search that you will apply in future job searches?
I learned that networking is a big part of getting into the corporate world. Learning how to build a network and using it effectively to get an internship makes getting a job that much easier down the road. It won't be a problem because you will already have a network established upon which to build. When you learn how to get an internship, you learn how to get a job.
What was the most valuable part of your internship experience? What skills did you gain or enhance as a result of being an intern?
The most valuable part of my internship was working in a corporate setting. It was not about getting coffee or cleaning up files. It was more like a job. I felt as if I was employed by the company that I had my internship with. I learned how to network in a professional setting which helped me gain contacts in the profession that I want to go into when I graduate. I gained and developed valuable transferable skills that will help make me more competitive in the job market.
