Student 4 Year Planner
First Year - Inquire
- Go to class
- Manage your time: in class, studying and preparing for class; exercising; relaxing with friends; etc.
- Keep your conduct record clean; study abroad and other opportunities depend on it.
- Meet with your academic advisor. Every UNH student has one.
- Get to know at least one of your professors. 444 classes with 25 students are an easy way to do this.
- Assess your interests, strengths, and skills with a UACC Career Advisor.
- Explore those interests through student organizations, volunteer experiences, lectures, and University Dialogue.
- Start planning a significant summer experience whether it is work, community service, travel, or better still, a combination.
- Activate your Wildcat Careers account.
- Thinking about medical or law school: meet with the Health Professions or Prelaw advisor.
Sophomore Year - Explore
- Diversify your experiences by getting to know someone different from yourself.
- If undeclared, work with your Academic Advisor to choose a major.
- Identify ways to develop and utilize your leadership skills.
- Get to know another professor.
- Talk to your advisor about your academic goals.
- Talk to the Internship Coordinator.
- Check out study away options: Washington Center, National Student Exchange, and Study Abroad.
- Develop a resume and have it reviewed at Hood House.
- Explore undergraduate research opportunities through the Hamel Research Center.
Junior Year - Expand
- Meet with a UACC Career Advisor (603-862-2064).
- Talk to your major advisor about what you want to do after graduation.
- Identify professors for future recommendations.
- Try out a career field – meet with the Internship Coordinator and apply for internship opportunities through your Wildcat Careers account.
- Volunteer: non-profits and service organizations can be great places to develop skills and explore interests.
- Attend the Graduate and Professional School Fair in October.
- Update your resume, develop your elevator pitch, and sign up for a practice interview at the UACC.
- Start networking: faculty, friends, family.
- Attend Career/Internship fairs, collect business cards, and ask employers what kinds of opportunities they offer.
Senior Year - Act
- Start early! Don't wait until May to finalize your post-grad plans.
- Line up your references; you will need at least three.
- Update your resume, continue to network, and fine tune your interviewing skills.
- Take advantage of on-campus interviewing through your Wildcat Careers account.
- Internships are still a possibility.
- Research and target companies attending the UNH Career/Internship Fair.
- Keep practicing your 3 minute elevator pitch. Whether you are looking for a job, going to graduate or professional school, or traveling for a year, you will need to be good at this
