Student 4 Year Planner

First Year - Inquire

  • Go to class
  • Manage your time: in class, studying and preparing for class; exercising; relaxing with friends; etc.
  • Keep your conduct record clean; study abroad and other opportunities depend on it.
  • Meet with your academic advisor. Every UNH student has one.
  • Get to know at least one of your professors. 444 classes with 25 students are an easy way to do this.
  • Assess your interests, strengths, and skills with a UACC Career Advisor.
  • Explore those interests through student organizations, volunteer experiences, lectures, and University Dialogue.
  • Start planning a significant summer experience whether it is work, community service, travel, or better still, a combination.
  • Activate your Wildcat Careers account.
  • Thinking about medical or law school: meet with the Health Professions or Prelaw advisor.

Sophomore Year - Explore

Junior Year - Expand

  • Identify professors for future recommendations.
  • Try out a career field – meet with the Internship Coordinator and apply for internship opportunities through your Wildcat Careers account.
  • Volunteer: non-profits and service organizations can be great places to develop skills and explore interests.
  • Attend the Graduate and Professional School Fair in October.
  • Update your resume, develop your elevator pitch, and sign up for a practice interview at the UACC.
  • Start networking: faculty, friends, family.
  • Attend Career/Internship fairs, collect business cards, and ask employers what kinds of opportunities they offer.

Senior Year - Act

  • Start early! Don't wait until May to finalize your post-grad plans.
  • Line up your references; you will need at least three.
  • Update your resume, continue to network, and fine tune your interviewing skills.
  • Take advantage of on-campus interviewing through your Wildcat Careers account.
  • Internships are still a possibility.
  • Research and target companies attending the UNH Career/Internship Fair.
  • Keep practicing your 3 minute elevator pitch. Whether you are looking for a job, going to graduate or professional school, or traveling for a year, you will need to be good at this
