Brief description of typical entry-level position

Financial Institution Specialists receive formal and on-the-job training to become bank examiners with the FDIC. During the first year of the program, employees perform rotational assignments to become familiar with each of the Corporation?s major business functions. Employees are trained to assess financial institutions to determine whether they are following safe and sound banking practices, maintain effective internal controls and procedures, are well-managed, and comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending. Bank examiners typically work in teams; often must travel extensively to conduct on-site exams at banks; and are required to pass a commissioning examination upon the completion of their training. The FDIC is seeking applicants with strong analytical and quantitative skills, the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally, the ability to work both independently and in teams, knowledge of the basic principles of accounting and finance; and an interest in public service.
