  • Thinking about medical or law school: meet with the Health Professions or Prelaw advisor

Balance

  • Manage your time in class, studying and preparing for class, working, exercising, student activities, and relaxing with friends

Ways to Advance

  • Keep your conduct record clean; study abroad and other opportunities depend on it
  • Get to know at least one of your professors. Strong relationships with faculty help build your UNH network 
  • Seek out academic help: Center for Academic Resources (CFAR), Math Center, Writing Center

  • Consider adding a minor or dual major

  • Get to know another professor; take advantage of office hours
  • Diversify your experiences by getting to know someone different from yourself

Get Involved and Build Skill

  • Research study away options: Washington Center, National Student Exchange, and Study Abroad
  • Explore undergraduate research opportunities through the Hamel Research Center
  • Become involved in at least one student organization related to your major

Visit Career Center

  • Revise your resume and cover letter; have it reviewed at Hood House.
  • Schedule a practice interview with a Career Advisor
  • Invest in professional clothes to wear to an interview or visit the Career Closet: if it fits, it’s yours

Network and Build your Skills

  • Create your Linked-In account, and join the UNH Alumni Linked-In group
  • Apply to the Pathways Alumni mentoring program for your Junior Year
  • Identify ways to develop and utilize your leadership skills
  • Develop skills in informational interviewing

  • Attend the “Applying to Graduate School Workshop” and the Graduate and Professional School Fair in October
  • Use summer before senior year to prep for 
    Grad School admission exams

Prepare

  • Update your resume, develop your elevator pitch, and sign up for a practice interview at the UNH Career Center
  • Meet with a Career Advisor to develop a networking plan to reach out to alumni, faculty, friends, and family

  • Volunteer: non-profits and service organizations can be great places to develop skills and explore interests.
