Basic Internet Help

"Clueless" about using the Internet?

There are 1001 resources for basic help to familiarize you with "browsers" and "URLs" and "Links", and many of the basics of getting around ("navigating", "surfing", etc.) on The Web.

For the purpose of buying your permit, the most important web concept to master is recognizing a "LINK". A link brings you from one page to another. Links are often recognizable as a word or sentence that is underlined, usually blue, like this.  On many systems, when you roll your cursor (little arrow) over a "line link", the arrow will turn into a little hand, with an extended pointer finger.

The links you will see in the on-line application the most are "button" links, and they look like this:

Some links are also pictures.  Web browsers also have "back" and "forward" buttons, usually resembling arrows, located at the top of the frame, allowing you to retrace your steps if you  need to.  Using links and "back" and "forward" buttons is called "navigating".

ON LINE FORMS:

Throughout the application, you will also see "text fields" where you are expected to fill in information like your name, address, license plate number, etc.  A field us just a blank white box.  Click your cursor in the box, and start typing.  Here is a sample:

Some "fields" have "down-arrows" which allow you to select from one of several pre-determined answers (such as month/year).  Click on the down arrow and then select the correct option.  Here is a sample:

To move to the next field, either click in the next white box, or hit the "tab" button.

You may also encounter check boxes: or  option buttons: These only require you to click within them to make selections.

If you can figure out that much, and you can patiently read through the information in the Parking and iParq web pages, you shouldn't have any trouble getting your permit (provided, of course, that you meet all the eligibility requirements).

Now "link" back to where you were, by clicking on the "back" button, or by using this link (brings you back to the very beginning of the on-line process).:
