Tenets of Tae Kwon Do

THE FIVE ASPECTS TO THE THEORY OF POWER:
  • Speed - the time it takes to strike the target.
  • Focus - maximizing force be using the smallest possible tool to strike the smallest part of the target.
  • Balance - being stable, yet flexible.
  • Breath Control - inhaling at the beginning of a technique, and exhaling at the moment of impact.
  • Reaction Force - using all parts of the body to maximize force exerted by a single part of the body (the use of chamber hands in punching is an example of this).
THE FIVE CODES OF HUMAN CONDUCT
FOLLOWED BY THE NOBLE HWARANG WARRIORS:
  • Allegiance to one's country.
  • Respect for one's parents.
  • Integrity in one's friendships.
  • Courage in battle.
  • Restraint from unnecessary cruelty or killing.
    THE KOREAN FLAG:
  • The Korean Flag represents the thoughts and culture of the Korean people. The design is based on philosophical thought. The Korean Flag is the flag of Taeguek. Taeguk means the origins of all things in the universe.

The design of the flag is centered on a white background, which symbolizes purity. The center circle represents Yang (red) and Um (blue); together representing the concepts of duality in nature (opposing forces) - although there is continual change in the universe, the opposites work together to maintain balance. Examples of Yang and Um are day/night, good/bad, fire/water

The trigrams in the corners also symbolize Um and Yang. The broken lines represent "Um", which means passiveness and cool; the unbroken lines represent "Yang", which means activeness and hot

The Korean Flag is a source of inspiration, representing the Korean people's independence, their hopes and ideals.
