Philosphy of Belt Colors

WHITE BELT

The student is a seed being planted in the ground - he/she is full of potential, but has not yet begun to grow in the art of Tae Kwon Do.
YELLOW BELT

The seed begins to take root - the student has begun to form the foundations for his/her Tae Kwon Do training.
GREEN BELT

The seed begins to sprout; and becomes recognizable as the tree it will someday become - the student begins to grow in the art of Tae Kwon Do; and his/her potential begins to take form.
BLUE BELT

The plant grows towards the sky - the student enhances his/her skills in Tae Kwon Do.
RED BELT

The plant becomes a full grown tree with a strong trunk and many branches - the student acquires real skill; but he/she must exercise caution... a tree must have balance between its roots and its branches, or else it will fall over.
BLACK BELT

The tree is now fully matured and drops it's seeds to the ground, and thus through re-birth the tree continues to grow - through learning that every end brings a new beginning the student can continue to refine his/her skills as a Tae Kwon Doist (the goal to become a tree serves a seed well, but it causes a tree to wither).
FULL-CIRCLE

Becoming a true Tae Kwon Doist means building upon the skills you have already acquired: a tree does not cut itself off from its roots so that it can grow branches; if it did, it could not nourish itself - likewise, a student should not cease to practice the fundamental techniques just because they have learned more advanced ones; instead they should focus on how new techniques build upon those they have already learned, this will give them a strong foundation which will allow them to perform more difficult techniques with greater skill.
