A DOLL'S HOUSE |
By Henrik Ibsen
Directed by David Richman
|
|
Highly controversial
when first per formed, Ibsen’s ground-breaking drama
opens with Nora Helmer twittering and posing like a
pretty skylark for her domineering husband. Is she being
a frivolous woman, or is she acting a requisite role?
For nearly two and a half centuries, Nora’s ultimate
rejection of the accepted constraints of marriage has
surprised and dismayed audiences. Are people really who
we think they are, and in the 128 years since Ibsen
wrote A Doll’s House, has the social and political
status of women really changed? |

In a little square town, in the middle
of a square state, a handsome drifter
just out of prison rumbles into town and

uptight community into a rock in’ place
where constraints are broken, love
sparks and everything is All Shook Up!

MIDWIVES |
By Dana Yeaton Adapted from the
novel by Chris Bohjalian
Directed by Raina Ames |
|
Stranded in a rural, country home during
an ice storm, a Vermont midwife makes a
split second decision that affects the
lives of everyone involved. Years later,
as her own life takes an unexpected
turn, she is forced to revisit that
night and examine the events that led to
her fateful decision. Intimate and
intense, Midwives explores the personal
costs paid when our choices profoundly
affect the welfare of others. |

Ken Ludwig’s |
|
SHAKESPEARE IN
HOLLYWOOD |
|
Directed by Deborah Kinghorn |
|
Love triangles! Mistaken identity! Ken
Ludwig’s latest farce is such stuff that
midsummer night dreams are made on. It’s
1934 Hollywood, and Shakespeare’s most
famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have
magically materialized on a movie set.
Dazzled by the glamour of show biz, the
two are ushered onto the silver screen
to play (who else?) themselves. Toss in
a blonde bombshell, a movie mogul, and
an arrogant “ass” and let the
merrymaking begin. |

UBU ROI |
By Alfred Jarry Directed by David
Kaye |
|
Surreal
nightmare, satirical social commentary,
or both? Ubu Roi tells the story of an
ambitious but cowardly man’s rise to
power and subsequent fall. Using
clown-like characters and an eccentric,
idiosyncratic style, Ubu Roi moves
beyond narrative theatre to expose the
ruthlessness and cruelty of naked
ambition. Drawing parallels between
history’s brutal dictators and today’s
world leaders, this production is
certain to disturb, thrill and provoke
both thought and emotion. |
