The London Experience

What is the course?

THDA 531: London Experience – Discovery: 4-credit course satisfying the Discovery Fine and Performing Arts requirement.
Learn about one of the greatest cities in the world during this exciting 10-day trip to London! This Discovery class begins as a two-week, on-line course and then packs in a busy schedule visiting amazing sights and taking in some of the best theatre in the English speaking world!  The course offers an insight into the history, politics, society and culture of London through the lens of art, architecture, music and of course, theatre.

THDA 532: The London Experience: 2-credit course
The London Experience program also offers a two-credit version of the class. This course takes part in all the same activities as the four-credit class, but will require approximately half the academic workload. Students enrolled in THDA 532 will also take part in the two-week on-line class in preparation for the trip to the UK.

Please note that students may not enroll for both THDA 532 and THDA 531 in the same semester.

What is the cost and what is included?

Departure is scheduled for Jan 5, 2014 with a return flight on Jan 15, 2014.  (Dates may vary by one day is substantially better airfare prices can be acquired)  The total cost for this class is made up of three parts.

1) Tuition and registration. (See http://www.unh.edu/januaryterm/#tuition for detailed information)

2) $950 Course Fee, which includes:
• Lodging for 9 nights at the Meininger hostel in central London (private, quad rooms), one block from the Museum of Natural History and two blocks from the Victoria and Albert Museum.  
• Continental breakfast each morning.
• Transportation to and from Heathrow airport
• A travel pass for all tube and bus travel in London (including those double deckers!)
• A side trip to Oxford (visit to Harry Potter film locations) and Stratford upon Avon (visit to Shakespeare’s Birthplace and the Anne Hathaway Cottage).
• Three to four Theatre tickets to major London productions
• Admission to the Tower of London, The houses of Parliament, The Cabinet War Rooms, the Globe Theatre and Museum, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abby, London Museum, Imperial War Museum, Tate Modern Museum, Sir John Soane Museum, The National Portrait Museum, The Shakespeare Birthplace, Anne Hathaway Cottage and Christ Church, Oxford

3) Airfare - Please note that plane fare is NOT included. Group tickets will be coordinated by the instructor so everyone on the trip can travel together. Students may fly on their own, however, transportation to and from Heathrow airport will not be provided. Students making their own flight arrangement must be at the Meininger Hotel by 10am on the day the group arrives in London. The group flight will depart from Boston's Logan airport. Students are responsible for getting to and from Logan airport on their own.

Who is eligible to participate?

In order to be eligible for this class, you must meet UNH standards for study abroad. This means a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a clean student conduct record. If you are unsure that you meet these qualifications, please see David Kaye to determine if it is possible for you to register for the class. VERY IMPORTANT: Submit the student conduct form AS SOON as you are reasonably certain you plan to take the course. You do not have to wait to register for the course to submit this form. Registration: Registration for the London Experience takes place when the University begins the registration process for all “J” term classes. This is normally begins in October. 

Application and Deadlines

The application deadline for the 2014 J-Term London Experience is November 1, 2013. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required by October 18.  Students are urged to begin the application process as soon as possible.
