THDA Senior Lauren Barton Selected to be College of Liberal Arts Student Fellow

scene from Spoon River Anthology

THDA senior Lauren Barton is one of five students in the College of Liberal Arts Chosen to be a 2012-2013 Student Fellow.  Student Fellows are nominated by their department chairs and chosen by the Associate Dean of the College. Typically seniors, these are students who are academically excellent and have had a varied and rich experience at UNH. The Fellows are, in effect, ambassadors for the College; during the Open Houses for prospective students in the spring, they describe their experiences to and answer questions from prospective students and their parents. Other duties they might assume are attending meetings with alumni, prospective donors to the College, or lawmakers. This is intended to be an honor in recognition of their achievement at UNH.

Lauren provided a bio that will be given to prospective students at the Open Houses so they can learn a little more about our Fellows.  Here it is:

My name is Lauren Barton. I am a nineteen year-old second semester junior in the College of Liberal Arts from Sanford, Florida.  I came to UNH to visit on a diving recruiting trip and immediately fell in love with the school. I enjoyed my first year on the dive team tremendously. However, after ten years of gymnastics and five years of diving, one of which was spent at UNH, I retired from the athletic world to focus on my true passion: theatre. I am a Theatre major with an emphasis in both Secondary Theatre Education and Acting. Upon graduating, my plan is to attend a graduate school for a Master’s in Education and/or performance and pursue my goals to become a high school drama teacher and working actor.

In high school I was a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Thespian Honor Society, Principal’s Honor Roll, AP Scholar and captain of the varsity Dive Team. I have been a state gymnastics champion, conference and district diving champion, and medaled at NCAA championships.  I participated and placed in the Florida Music Federation Piano competitions for many years. I am proud to have made the Dean’s List every year here and am humbled to add Student Fellow to my list of accomplishments. I enjoy everything tied to theatre as well as photography, music, singing, poetry, reading, writing, trying new foods, and spending time with my friends.
