The UNH Academic Program in College Teaching
Since 1997, the Graduate School of the University of New Hampshire, in conjunction with the UNH Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, has been offering graduate academic courses in college teaching. All courses in the program emphasize the transfer of theory and research into instructional practice. Our courses are available to UNH doctoral students, UNH faculty, and faculty and graduate students from other institutions. Participants have three options for earning a credential in college teaching:
- Cognate in College Teaching
A 12-credit program available to UNH doctoral students
Core courses (4 credits) - offered by the College Teaching Faculty
Field and disciplinary studies courses (4 credits) - offered by disciplinary faculty
College teaching praxis (4 credits) - 2 separate teaching experiences required - Master of Science for Teachers (MST) in College Teaching
A 32-credit degree program offered to UNH doctoral students, college and university faculty, and doctoral students from other institutions
Core courses (16 credits) - offered by the College Teaching Faculty
Field and disciplinary studies courses (8 credits) - offered by disciplinary faculty
College teaching praxis (8 credits) - 4 separate teaching experiences required - Graduate Certificate in College Teaching (Offered Online)
A 12-credit certificate program offered to college and university faculty, post-doctoral students, and doctoral students from elsewhere
Core courses (10 credits) - offered by the College Teaching Faculty
Capstone experience (2 credits) - offered by the College Teaching Faculty
In 2002, The University of New Hampshire's Academic Programs in College Teaching were awarded a Theodore M. Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence by TIAA-CREF.
