The University of New Hampshire is evaluating whether to offer a Master’s of Science in Information Technology (MS IT) at UNH Manchester. This program is designed to prepare students for a professional IT or computing-related career and for advanced study in a computing discipline. The program will be flexible in delivery times and methods and will teach students to gain proficiency with (1) the application of conceptual knowledge and current practices in the core information technologies; (2) selection, creation, evaluation, and administration of computer-based systems; (3) analysis of user needs and effective integration of IT-based solutions into the user environment.
The program requires completion of 33 credits (11 courses) and offers the option for a master’s thesis or a capstone project. Six courses focus on core technologies such as requirements engineering, object-oriented software development, networking and server technologies, information assurance and security, database application development, and web systems. Two integration courses focus on system architecture approaches and technologies and project management. In the thesis option, the program further requires completion of an elective course and a six-credit thesis. The project option requires completion of two electives and a three-credit project that is integrative in nature and requires IT research.
