Welcome from the Students

Welcome to Student Summit: Promoting Responsible Celebrations. We initiated this conference in response to the disturbing events surrounding the University of New Hampshire's trip to the NCAA Hockey Championships in April 2003 and similar events that have taken place on college campuses across the country. Members of the community, including many students, are concerned about what happened, and why. We are deeply interested in understanding more about this national trend and what we, as students within our larger community, can do together to effect positive change among our student body. We view this summit as a first step in the process.

It is our hope that the conference and this Web site will serve as resources for many others across the country. We are excited about the possibilities that this summit holds, not only for the participating universities, but also for everyone involved in higher education and the communities in which our universities and colleges are located.

Please re-visit this site. We plan to post initial summaries and recommendations arising from the conference and hope to begin a national, student-centered dialog about large-group disturbances through an electronic forum posted at this URL.
