Keynote Speaker
Daniel L. Wann, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Murray
State University and a member of the board of directors for the National
Alliance for Youth Sports, has been studying the psychology of sport fans
and spectators since the mid 1980s. He is particularly interested in fan
identification, spectator violence, and the actions of parents as spectators
at youth sporting events.
Wann has published numerous articles and presented at more than 40 conferences
on the topic of sport fans and parental involvement in sports. He is the
author of Sport Psychology (Prentice Hall, 1997) and Sport Fans: The Psychology
and Social Impact of Spectators (Routledge, 2001).
A consultant to several national business and sport organizations including
Norelco, Taylor Made Golf, the National Basketball Association, ARAMARK/Major
League Baseball, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Wann
assists in their understanding of sport fans and their behavior. He has
been interviewed by the Washington Post, New York Times,
USA Today, Sporting Kid, NPR, ESPN, CNN, and CNBC.
