Here are some terms that might be new to first year students

 
ADD/DROP Process of changing courses you have registered for by adding some and dropping others. Get a "Change of Registration" form from the Registrar's office, Undergraduate Advising Center or you school or college/Dean's office. Have the professor for each course you are adding  or dropping, sign the form. Then have your advisor review it and sign it. Afterwards, take it to the Registrar's office. Must be done within a certain period of time so make sure you have check the deadlines. 
ALLIANCE: The name of UNH's most prominent student society for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and ally students. The Alliance is one of the oldest LGBT college student organizations in the country!
CAB Campus Activities Board 
CAT'S CACHE (CASH) It 's UNH's own debit card system. You put some money in and viola you can get things from vending machines or at food places with no cash on hand. Works with your ID card. 
CEPS or E&PS College of Engineering and Physical Sciences 
CIS Computing Information Services (if something is not working on your computer call 2-4242 they can help). 
CUM Cumulative grade point average for all semesters you have taken courses. 
DSC Diversity Support Coalition - The student coalition and its member organizations: Alliance, Black Student Union, Disabilities Student Organization, Hillel, MOSAICO, Native American Cultural Association, and United Asian Coalition, exist to provide educational and social events to educate the student body about multiculturalism and diversity. Offices are located on the 100 level of the Memorial Union Building (MUB) 
DUMP Durham Market Place (the local market, with  no reflection on the goods that you can find there) 
GABLES AND WOODSIDE Apartments for those who want to move out of the halls but not quite ready to leave campus.
GPA Grade Point Average ( Don't ask how it's done , just know that it is) 
GRANITE A type of rock found in abundance in New Hampshire . Therefore the name has been  attributed to many things such as the state and the university year book and possibly many more things. 
GREEKS  Campus fraternities and sororities 
HAM-SMITH Hamilton-Smith Hall the ACADEMIC BUILDING (as opposed to just Smith, a residence hall, and just out of coincidence they are almost directly across from one another) 
HHS School of Health and Human Services 
ID Your student identification card. You may get your ID card on the 1st floor in Holloway Commons. 
LA College of Liberal Arts 
LOWER QUAD Engelhardt, Hunter and Gibbs Residence Halls 
LSA or COLSA College of Life Sciences and Agriculture 
MUB Memorial Union Building
MINIS Four Theme-based houses on campus called the Mini Dorms
MUSO Memorial Union Student Organization (They bring in movies and concerts) 
NACA Native American Cultural Association 
TNH The New Hampshire. This twice-weekly paper is for and by UNH students 
OMSA Office of Multicultural Student Affairs 
PCAC Paul Creative Arts Center (place for many events intended to enhance one culturally) 
PLEDGING Process of joining a fraternity or sorority 
R Abbreviation for Thursday in the Time and Room Schedule ( So a Tuesday/Thursday class looks like this: TR) 
RA A Resident Assistant is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life who lives on your floor as a resource ( you too could have this job, great benefits) 
RHD A professional UNH staff member who lives in your hall as a resource (supervises the RAs)
RUSH Process of selecting new members for fraternities and sororities
SAFO Student Activity Fee Organization. (This is where your mandatory student activity fee money goes so check them out to see what they do with it) 
SCOPE Student Committee On Popular Entertainment (They bring in big name recording artists and comedians,) 
SLS Spaulding Life Sciences 
STOKE HALL YES folks it really is STOKE, not Stokes.  It's a residence hall which also houses the Registrar's Office and Business Services is on the ground floor.
T and C Town and Campus Store, downtown Durham for cards and more.
T-HALL Thompson Hall- Office of the President, Vice- Presidents for Academic and Student Affairs, Affirmative Action, and Graduate School and the bells... 
T-SCHOOL Thompson School of Applied Science 
TA Teaching Assistant 
THE WHIT Fitness, hockey, intramurals, club sports and basketball are part of Campus Recreation and are available to those with valid UNH ID's.  Call 862-1528 for information.

WILDCATESSEN A place to eat when you've missed dinner. (It's at Stillings dining hall) 
WSBE (Wizz-Bee) Whittemore School of Business and Economics 
WUNH UNH's very own radio station.  WUNH won the Gavin award as college radio station of the year.
