Name: Neil Vroman, Associate Dean in the School of Health and Human Services

Background – Dean Vroman came to UNH in 1984 as an Assistant Professor in Kinesiology. He moved into the Dean’s office about six years ago.

Within the School of HHS, it is Dean Vroman’s responsibility to help students navigate the various aspects of college life and work with them when they experience difficulty.

Dean Vroman's advice for First Year Students -

My hope for students is that they quickly become confident and comfortable enough to talk to the adults that are here to help them –Faculty, Hall Directors, Advisors, anyone. I have seen too many people who simply wait too long to connect with anyone other than their roommate or their friends from home. The faster they make connections within the University, the faster they will transition to UNH and being a successful student.

“I view our office as the window between faculty, students, parents and the external community. We try to manage the day-to-day workings of the school so the faculty can concentrate on being good teachers and researchers. We are the clearing house where students, parents and faculty can come to get help with their questions or concerns. Most times we can help them, but if not, we usually know exactly where to send them to get help.”

In addition to his Associate Dean responsibilities, Dean Vroman teaches a 2 credit interdisciplinary course that allows undeclared students within the School of Health and Human Services to explore their career options. “I like teaching this course since it is another way where I can make a connection with students that is different than my Associate Dean role. It is another chance to help students through their transition and development here at UNH.”
