Why Have You Been Referred: A UNH Residence Hall Director, University Hearing Officer, UNH Police, or Student Senate Legal Services has referred you to the Office of Health Education and Promotion (OHEP), Health Services because you have been involved in a violation of community policies regarding alcohol and/or other drugs. This mandate for educational services is an opportunity for you to gain knowledge and information and examine your alcohol and/or other drug use choices. What You Need To Do: You must make an appointment with a health educator/counselor by contacting the office at 862-3823, or by going to room 249 of Health Services. The administrative assistants will make your individual appointment. You will be asked to provide your name, social security number, current address, phone number, who referred you, and why. Students referred by the Student Senate Legal Services must obtain copies of their court agreement and police report and bring these documents prior to their appointment. Step 1 : You will meet in an individual education session with a health educator/counselor. You will be held responsible for keeping the appointment that you schedule, so please make every effort to attend or to call 862-3823 to reschedule. You must complete this individual session before you can attend a class. Step 2 : You will be registered for the next available alcohol and other drug education class. You must attend the class you are registered for, only those students who are registered will be allowed into class. All students are required to attend these educational classes, without exception. The education class is two-and-a-half hours in length. The goal of this sanction is to provide you with an opportunity to increase your knowledge, clarify values, complete a self-assessment, and examine your choices regarding your use of alcohol and/or other drugs. Step
3 : You will meet a health educator/counselor for an individual
exit session. If the counselor has further recommendations for you,
he/she will make them at this time. When a student has completed the sessions
with the OHEP, he/she signs the necessary release forms and the referring
source is notified that the student has completed. Remember: It is necessary
to complete all education and counseling requirements determined by the
Office of Health Education and Promotion staff in order to comply with
your sanctions from the UNH student judicial system or other referring
sources. |
