Summer Sizzle: The Granite State sizzled as a very warm, humid air mass moved over the state ahead of a cold front on July 12, 2011. Morning low temperatures above 70 °F were reported across southeastern New Hampshire, offering little relief from the previous day’s heat. Several records were tied or exceeded as afternoon temperatures reached the upper 80’s °F from the White Mountains north and over 90 °F across southeastern portion of the state (NRCC). While conditions were oppressive statewide, cities and towns throughout the Merrimack Valley and Seacoast sweltered under a combination of high heat and humidity, making it “feel” even hotter. The coast offered little relief with a high of 92 °F and dew points in the 70’s °F in Portsmouth and North Hampton (NWS Weather Forecast Center Gray Maine).
