Course Description
This course is designed to (1) provide students with "authentic" target language materials via Internet and (2) provide them with the means of "real-world" interaction with speakers of the foreign language. This course is oriented towards the beginner and intermediate level. Students will also opportunities to design their own home pages using several Internet tools. Students will become familiar with the use of Internet resources, will learn how to download files from the Internet, and will enable students to use the Internet resources to create activities and projects which they can later incorporate into their own teaching and learning.
Course Outline
Course Objectives
To guide students to an understanding of the Internet as it relates to foreign language learning through selected reading materials from journals, articles and books.
To familiarize students with the terminology of the Internet and to learn how to explore web-sites.
To allow students to use search engines such as "Alta Vista," "Yahoo," and "Lycos," to search for information related to foreign languages.
To provide students opportunities to use several Internet tools such as E-mail, Listserv, Newsgroups, and Moo; and several multimedia programs such as such "RealAudio," and "VideoLive," to incorporate into the projects of their interest.
To help students gain confidence and competence in incorporating the Internet to their teaching and learning.
Students' Responsibilities
Have realible access to WWW and E-mail connected at your school or on-line service.
Participate in discussions through class listserv and newsgroups.
Demonstrate the knowledge of using Internet technology for foreign language teaching and learning by means of projects.
Complete assignments designed to bring together Internet, pedagogy and practice.
