Recreational and Competitive Skiing
The Nordic ski club facilitates and involves all levels of interest. At its most basic it offers an opportunity to learn how to cross-country ski or to continue skiing with a team. For students serious about competing, the club offers structured training, a team with which to train, and race support. The difference between these two aspects of the club is the number of hours the individual commits to team activities.
Formal practices are scheduled three times a week in order to offer a survey of Nordic training. Even for those not interested in competing, these on-campus outings are an excellent way to stay in shape and at the same time socialize with other people. For the racers, these practices offer the base for a more aggresive regimen, which is worked out to accomodate the schedules of those interested.
Eligibility
All students, undergraduate and graduate, are welcome to join the team.
Equipment
We have eight sets of Rossignol Max combi skis with a selection of boot and poles. Club members are allowed to use this equipment free of charge at any time. We also have a wax bench, an iron, and a selection of glide and kick waxes for ski maintenance and racing.
Instruction
Many students who join the club are new to the sport. There is instruction available from both our coach and the more experienced skiers. It's easy to put on a pair of skis and begin having fun even within your first day on the snow, so don't be intimidated! If you're new to cross-country skiing, don't wait until the winter to come by. Getting involved in the fall will make the skiing and team experience that much better!
Outings, Races, and NENSA
Through the fall and winter the Nordic Ski Club goes on roughly two weekend outings a month. In the winter these outings are usually joint recreational/competitive venues. The club is NENSA affiliated, which means members recieve a discount on their NENSA membership.
