CIS Upgrades to Exchange Server 2007

Martin England

Summer, 2009

In May 2009, Computing & Information Services upgraded to Exchange Server 2007. The Exchange Server is used by many UNH staff for Outlook E-mail, calendaring, and shared folder access. In summary, the upgrade improves search and scheduling functionality, extends out of office options, and enables users to setup more rules. It also provides greater features for resources such as conference rooms, including the ability to set room capacities to match audience sizes. Exchange users will also be able to access their mobile devices through Outlook Web Access.

Functionality for Outlook Exchange depends on which version of Outlook you are using. CIS recommends Outlook 2007 for all users, as limited functionality is available through all previous versions, including Outlook 2003. Full functionality for Intel-based Mac users is available by using VMWare Fusion with Outlook 2007. Please note that all other mail clients (such as Eudora, Thunderbird, and Entourage) are not supported by CIS for Exchange.

Full functionality using Exchange Outlook Web Access is available solely through Internet Explorer 7 or greater. Access is still available using all other browsers, but functionality is reduced.
