We're Moving Up to Blackboard 8!
Computing & Information Services is upgrading to Blackboard version 8 on Sunday, July 12.
The upgrade will begin at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday and is expected to take most of the day. Blackboard will be unavailable during the upgrade, but access to Webmail and Webcat will not be affected.
Instructors teaching summer courses and students enrolled in those courses will not be affected by the results of the upgrade. All materials from courses that began in Blackboard version 7 will be upgraded to version 8. No additional action will be required of either instructors or students.
Blackboard version 8 contains all the same features as version 7 with the addition of some significant enhancements. The Blackboard Gradebook becomes the Blackboard Grade Center in the new version. The Grade Center offers features such as improved management and reporting options, new student and instructor views, grade history, and calculated columns. Blackboard 8 also includes self-assessment and peer-assessment tools and enhancements to the discussion board. Please visit cis.unh.edu/idc/blackboard for information on other new and improved features in Blackboard 8.
The Instructional Development Center (IDC) will offer demonstrations of the new and improved features in Blackboard 8 throughout the spring and summer. Please visit idctraining.unh.edu/courses for information on these sessions and to register online. You can also request a demonstration or overview of the new features for your department or group by contacting April Rau (firstname.lastname@example.org or 862-3111). Visit the IDC FIRST website at cis.unh.edu/idc/first for updated Quick Tips for all Blackboard features, as well as documentation for eInstruction, SafeAssign, Content Management, and ePortfolios.
If you have questions or concerns about the Blackboard upgrade, please contact Laurie Trufant in the Instructional Development Center (L.Trufant@unh.edu or 862-4394).
