E911 Update

UNH Telecom

November, 2008

Emergency 911In July 2008, CIS Telecommunications and Client Services updated Telecom Account Managers (TAMs) and Business Service Center (BSC) contacts regarding preparation for bringing all UNH telephone services into compliance with the State of New Hampshire E911 regulations (one physical address with each calling party’s telephone number.) During October, Telecom began contacting UNH TAMs to identify each department’s services affected by this change.

Departments can either have new extensions assigned to telephone numbers that appear in more than one location or simply have the additional locations disconnected. If neither of these options is suitable to your department’s needs, Telecom staff will work with you to achieve a viable alternative.

These changes will be implemented at no cost to the department. If the department decides to install new extensions to replace duplicates, Telecom will waive all one-time fees for completing the work. Monthly recurring charge(s) for dial tone for the replacement extension(s) will bill at $0.00 for the remainder of FY 09. Effective FY 10, the replacement extensions will sustain the regular monthly rate for dial tone.

Telecom expects the transition to be completed by the end of FY 09. We appreciate your patience as we work together through the process of complying with the State of New Hampshire regulations for Enhanced 911 safety measures.
