Beginning in 2003, SCAN started the tradition of having a student film festival every year, and so far it's been very successful. Students submit entries, there's a big screening open to the public, and prizes are awarded according to voting done by the festival audience. Last year a nice DVD was given to the top prize.

The Festival is open to any and all UNH students (including UNH Manchester Students). Ideally we'd love to have students use our equipment for their entries, but in no way is it required. Previously made material may also be entered, and the SCAN Film Festival is not only limited to films. Music videos, short skits, commercials, cartoons, or basically anything that can be shown on a television/movie screen is open to be submitted.

The only real requirement is that the entries be rather short. We'd like to keep everything under 15 minutes long. Some people have complained that this is too short a time to make a film, but we disagree. Anyway, longer submissions will be accepted if we at SCAN feel that the extra time has been used well. Basically the time limit is there so that students realize that submissions don't have to be a huge endeavor. A 30 second short would be perfectly acceptable. We're just trying not to scare any potential contributors away.

 RULES AND BASIC INFORMATION:

HOW TO GET STARTED:

- What? You don't have a digital video camera or any editing software. Oh and you think you might wanna try using a boom mic and a tripod? Well, have no fear! We have you covered. We'll supply you with all the equipment you need and even show you how to use it! You can do one of the following:

-Come to the SCAN Film Festival Information meeting immediately following UNH Winter Break (exact date to be given soon)

-Stop by SCAN TV-24's main office in MUB Rm 134 at anytime.

-Try calling us at 862-2118 (leave a message if no one picks up)

GUIDELINES:

- Entries should be short. We're talking 15 minutes max if you want to be able to win the top prize. If we think the extra time is justified, of course we'll show your film.

- Entries are not required to be films. What does that mean? Well, it means we're not limiting you to just "movies", meaning we'll accept skits, cartoons, cartoons, music videos, and even ads.

- Previously made material is perfectly acceptable. Submissions don't need to have been made recently. Sooo, you made a short film in high school or had a film studies class last semester and had to do a video project. As long as you are a UNH student, submit it to us and we'll probably show it.

- Anything else you're still not sure about? Give us a call at 862-2118 or stop by our office in MUB RM 134.

PRIZES:
Ok sorry, but we're still figuring out the prize situation. Last year top prize got a $100 DVD player (none of that Apex crap). Other prizes included SCAN tshirts, and stickers. Right now we're trying to figure out if we can think of anything creative. But we'll probably just end up giving away a DVD player again, so you can expect at least that much.
So what are you waiting for? Time to make some movies!
