***In Fall 2008 Scott Hall will be a Coed Residence Hall***

Do you want to help create a legacy?  Come to Scott Hall!  This year Scott is experiencing its first year as a coed residence hall since it was built in 1932.picture of student  For the past 75 years Scott has been an all-female residence hall, so it’s pretty incredible that it is now the last hall to turn coed.  Come here to create what you want for the building.

We will be starting new traditions, stories, and memories – this is exciting!

Location:
Besides being newly coed, the greatest aspect of Scott Hall is its location.  We have a beautiful view of Thompson Hall with a large, grassy front yard that is often used for laying out in the sun, playing Frisbee or football, building snowmen, and many other activities.  For those of you who like to study in the library, it is right across the street from us.  We are close to the Whittemore Center and the Campus Recreation Center, about 40 steps to Stillings Dining Hall, and not far from Holloway Commons Dining Hall.  So if you want a few extra minutes of sleep, an area to play outside, a beautiful stone front porch, and convenience to many hot spots on campus, Scott Hall is the place to reside!

Community & Environment:
This year and in the past, Scott has been a relatively clean, respectful, andquiet building.  At the same time Scott has provided an environment wherestudents can let their guard down, laugh, and make friends forever.  It is small, with only about 120 residents, and has several single rooms.  While many of the freshmen women who currently live here had not chosen the all-women’s residence hall coming in, most of them have grown to love the building and the community here.  We have some great things going on, and we’re excited to continue this strong community when the building goes coed!

Traditions:

  • Scottoberfest (a week long event, filled with funin October)
  • Apple picking in the fall
  • Trips to Boston
  • Night by the fire (we have a fireplace)
  • Study Bucks raffle
  • Halloween party
  • Valentine making
  • Pizza Parties
  • Relay for Life

These are some of our current traditions, but we are super excited to start some brand new traditions with the group that will come in next year!  We hope you want to be a part of starting these new, exciting traditions with us.

Community Service Partnership:
One tradition in Scott that probably will not change is Scott’s communitypartnership with the Children’s Museum of Portsmouth, which you can checkouthere http://www.childrens-museum.org/.  The Museum is a hands-on arts and sciences museum for picture of studentschildren of all ages offering engaging exhibits, daily art and science activities, family programs, and workshops.  Scott developed this partnership in 2005 and has found it to be a great project for our residents to get involved with.  We send students down a couple times a year, specifically for the Museum’s “Costume Day” in October and the “Mardi Gras” festival in February.  Our students have always had good experiences with the employees at the Museum, and have a blast working with the kids!

’08-09 Hall Staff:
Amie Hack is the current Residence Hall Director in Scott.  Check out her profile in the link below.  What does Amie have to say?

“I am incredibly excited to experience the change next year as Scott goes from an all-female residence hall to a coed hall!  Although I am having such a wonderful experience with all the women this year and have grown to love my staff and all of my residents, I think the change will bring a ton of energy to the building.  I am really excited to meet the new staff and students who choose Scott, and to begin to build a new personality for the building with them.  I love living here, whether the building is all female or coed.  It just has a comfortable, welcoming feeling that is unique to Scott!”

Current Residents:
What do current Scott Hall residents have to say about Scott ?

From Cailen Ciarletta, a freshman resident:
“Living in Scott Hall is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happenedto me. The atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly, and the people here are great. The building is a great place for students who want it to be quiet when they want to study, yet social when they want to be. I have met all of my friends and more here and they are all amazing women. The socials that the RAs put on are so much fun! They bring all everyone together and we have a blast! Scott Hall is an amazing place to live no matter who you are!”

From Molly Mansfield, a senior resident:
“One of my favorite things about living in Scott is that it's a quiet oasis in the heart of campus. It is close to nearly everything, so I can be social and feel connected to campus, but still feel like I have my privacy. Scott is definitely one of the best dorms at UNH!”

From Liz Moon, a senior resident who is currently one of our RAs:
“I think that the fact that Scott Hall is going coed is great!  It’ll bring new life to Scott and I think it’ll end up being a popular dorm to live in with the years to come.  Scott Hall is at a great location.  It’s close to the Whit, the MUB,  Holloway Commons, and classes.  If anyone ever asks you what the center of campus is, it’s Scott Hall!”
