Advice for incoming first year students?
I think a lot of students come in with the expectation that college is going to be this awesome place where they’ll automatically have so many friends and have so much fun, but then they sit in their rooms and wait for it to happen to them. You only get out of your college experience what you put it into so don’t be afraid to step of out of your comfort zone, leave your room, and go meet someone.
Remember every minute you spend checking away messages, Facebook stalking, and talking on your cell to people back home is a minute of college that you’ll never get back.
Oh, and go to class.

Why did you choose to become a Hall Director?
I don’t have a real clear cut answer to this question. The boiled down version is that I really love everything about the college atmosphere and I knew I wanted to work in higher education. I considered academia for a while, and then realized that I could never do all the research it takes to become a professor. I went to community college for two years and had to live with my parents, so when I finally got to a four-year school I was dying to have that on-campus living experience. The summer before my senior year, I was living at home, working 9-5 in a government internship, and I was bored out of my mind. That’s when I realized that the part of my own college experience that I valued the most and got the most out of was living on campus (don’t tell my professors that). To make a long story short, I thought it would be pretty cool if I got to help other students have a great on-campus experience and get paid at the same time. Plus, I get a meal plan.

Why did you choose UNH? What attracted you to the area or the school?
I think UNH has an awesome residential life program. The staff here is big on accountability, is very supportive, and likes to have fun. I really felt like this was a place that fit with my own personal philosophy and work style. I think the seacoast area is awesome and there is a huge variety of options for things to do and places to go.

Any previous experiences, hobbies,
etc. that you would want Students to know about you?
I grew up in Southern Maryland where I went to community college for two years before transferring to the University of Richmond. I spent three years at Richmond and loved it. After graduating I went straight to grad school at William and Mary. I finished there this past spring and now here I am in New Hampshire!
I’m a very laid back guy and I enjoy a lot of different things. In my free time this year I’ll be busy planning a wedding for next summer with my fiancée, Amie, who happens to be the hall director for Scott Hall. Other than that, if you really want to know about me, you’ll have to ask!

Thoughts you might be having coming
into your own 1st year at UNH?
I feel like I’ve been in school my whole life, so it’s great to be done (for now) and be able to put everything I’ve learned to use. I’m pumped about this upcoming year and I really hope to get to know all the students in my building. So if you’re in Sawyer Hall, don’t be shy, stop in and say hello!
