Advice for incoming Babcock residents?

  • Don't wait until you arrive in Durham to ask questions! There are people in every office at UNH who are happy to help you make your transition to campus life. When in doubt, ask.pick up the phone, write an email, or visit in person (my contact info is at the bottom of the page).

  • Consult the UNH website --Answers to many of the questions you have can be found there.

  • When in doubt, ask someone: pick up the phone, write an email, or visit in person.

  • The number one thing most incoming Babcock Residents forget to take care of before arriving on campus is obtaining their parking permits!

  • On a more personal note, be assured that you will meet many UNH students in Babcock Hall who have made, or are in the process of making, the adjustments to campus life that you are. Our community represents a variety of diverse groups-age, nationality, class standing and life experience are a few of these. Although you might occasionally feel out of step on the UNH campus as a whole, you have an excellent chance to find your "niche" among Babcock Hall's residents.

Why did you choose to accept the Babcock Hall Manager position?

I have enjoyed working for Babcock Hall's residents as an RA and Assistant Building Manager. I had the fantastic opportunity of knowing and working with several past Hall Directors who were not only good friends and supportive mentors, but who challenged me and helped me to improve my abilities as a listener, advocate and resource for students. Seeking to understand and help people has proven to be very rewarding for me. Living with and learning from other UNH students from all around the globe has positively changed my view of the world. I value the opportunity to help our unique community of students make the most of their time at UNH.

Why did you choose UNH? What attracted you to the area or to the school?

I was initially attracted to the Forest Technology AAS program at the UNH Thompson School of Applied Science-one of the most highly regarded two-year Forestry programs in the United States. From there, my interests broadened to Public Policy and Community Development, which led me to the Resource Economics BS program and my current pursuit, the Masters in Public Administration degree. Since 1999, UNH has felt like home to me.

Any previous experiences that you would want Babcock residents to know about you?

I am a non-traditional student with many 'adult' experiences predicating my academic career--I was a homeowner and twice a small business owner. I have 12 years of small business management and entrepreneurial experience. And to top it off, five years of resident "experience" in Babcock Hall! I'm not kidding when I say I know every square inch of the building.I've even gotten a birds-eye view of the UNH campus from the roof of Babcock!

Thoughts you might be having coming into your own "freshman year" as the Babcock Hall Manager?

I am excited to be entering this position having experienced Babcock Hall from so many perspectives-new resident, returning resident, RA, Assistant Hall Manager, and now Hall Manager. I am looking forward to working with a great staff and focusing on community development in Babcock Hall.
