Background

I came to UNH in 1984 from UVM as a Hall Director as my first job out of graduate school... never expecting to be here 22 years later.  People often ask me what keeps me here.  I think it's that the work has so many different components to it that things never get boring.  The students change, the staff changes, and the projects change, too.  It's also great to see some of the progress that can be made over time and feel those rewards.  I think I've gotten much more patient as a result.

Other Facts About Me

I live in Northwood, NH (about 25 minutes from campus) with my family, partner Gary and children Ben (20), Kyle (17) and Li Hong (14). Our family embarked on a courageous journey adopting Li Hong from China when she was 8.

We all love the outdoors... x-country skiing and hiking.  I don't have much free time these days, but I still run daily and can be found transporting and/or watching numerous sporting activities that my children are involved in.

Ben goes to school in Colorado and is planning on transferring to another school in Washington State. It's an interesting journey parenting a college student from afar, but still rewarding. We'll see how #2 goes without son Kyle starting College next Fall.

All these years of talking about parent's and college students and now I actually have a different perspective.

My Work Style

I am the type of person who likes to have a lot of projects going on all at once, and I actually like it when things are a little hectic and haphazard -- in both my private life and my professional work life.  ResLife is a perfect fit for that... there's always lots of different things going on and a wide variety of skills utilized in any given day.  Hall Directors say I am the "idea queen" and always willing to lend my thoughts to any problem.  I can be quite tasky when I need to be, but also enjoy lots of freedom and autonomy to be creative.

I love working with the Hall Directors.  I have seen so many of them evolve over time.  It's great to see each of them become more confident and discover a style that is effective and is distinctly their own-- not some image they think they should be.  I have never worked with such a dedicated group of professionals; it is so inspiring to me and keeps me motivated to do my best.
