Jose Vega
1st Year RA, Smith Hall
Major/Year: Nursing, Sophomore
Hometown: Jamaica Plain, MA

Why did you apply to be an RA?

I applied to meet new people and become more involved on campus.

What was the application/interview/hiring process like for you?

The application/interview/hiring process was an intense challenge for me. I had to push away the thought of everyone being a better candidate than me and keep in mind that I was good enough and qualified to be a friend, mentor, and leader of a community.

Has the RA experience been what you expected? Why or why not?

So far, it has been everything I expected. I've met tons of new people and have made great friends.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being an RA?

The most rewarding aspect of being an RA is the feeling I get after helping someone out and them being thankful for it.

What has been the biggest challenge for you?

The biggest challenge has been time management.  Being in a smaller hall means more nights on duty and less time to relax.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming an RA?

My advice is to go for it.  There is a lot to experience as an RA and there are many people, not just residents that will be great to meet.
