Jessie
Doe Hall
Jessie D. J-D. The Doe.
Whatever you call it, Jessie Doe is an amazing place to live. Comprised of only 140 residents, we count a great mix of first-year and upper-class students within our four floors. Jessie Doe sports singles, doubles, triples, and quads.
We also boast FOUR large lounges – one strictly for studying in the basement, one for playing ping-pong, piano, and foosball, socializing, hanging by the (working) fireplace, and watching the big screen TV on the first floor, plus two flexible use lounges on the second and third floors.
Jessie Doe is a great hall with lots of history and traditions.
This
Year's Theme:
“Doe-mocracy In Action!”
Residents of Jessie Doe will explore the meaning of democracy and citizenship in today’s world. By year’s end, community members will know more than just who’s running for office, they’ll understand the importance and personal impact of the political process, how government decisions affect lives, and clarify their own thoughts and beliefs.
This is your opportunity to become (or enhance being) an informed, engaged voter. Together, we are planning educational and social programs to spark your interest in the upcoming national elections, as well as the relevance of current events, from news on campus to events happening across the globe.
A Home for ALL
In Jessie Doe, we promote and actively celebrate diversity of all kinds.
There will be NO TOLERANCE for hate, harassment, or discrimination based on (but not limited to) a person’s race, sex, age, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical or mental ability, marital status, veterans status, or political orientation. Any resident in violation of this bedrock community principle will be promptly referred for conduct action, with eviction a potential sanction.
Every
resident of Jessie Doe has a right to feel safe and free from
oppression in his/her home.
Every resident of Jessie Doe has a responsibility to
insure that their neighbors live in a safe and inclusive community. This
means considering the impact of your speech, confronting others’ inappropriate
behavior, and reporting violations of this basic principle
to the hall director or RAs.
Location
Jessie Doe is ideally located for easy access to main campus (less than a five-minute walk to most classes), and perfectly suited for food (next door to Stillings Dining Hall) and working out (a two-minute walk to the Hamel Recreation Center).
Tucked snuggly into the wooded portion of Area I, Jessie Doe shares the Amen Corner with neighbors McLaughlin Hall and Lord Hall.
The New England Center, UNH’s on-campus hotel and restaurant, resides directly behind Jessie Doe and makes an ideal place for families and friends to stay when visiting their Jessie Doe resident.
And because Jessie Doe is partially wooded, we have the occasional animal visitor: Woodchucks, chipmunks, skunks, and deer all call the area around Jessie Doe home. During the spring, I Lot (behind the hall) occasionally floods, forming Jessie Doe Lake, a popular (and chilly) destination for swimming, rafting, and water gun fights.
Staff
Jessie Doe is supervised by residence hall director Jay Tifone. His role is to provide you with tools for academic and social success, as well as offer educational resources, counseling, conflict mediation, and policy enforcement. For photos and a bio from each RA, please click here.
Four resident assistants (RAs) – Jackie Bradley. Alex Politis, Jeff Champagne, and Chris Collins – also help build community and serve as resources to you. Each RA is a student employee who lives on and serves one floor of Jessie Doe. For photos and bios from each RA, please click here
The five staff members are here to make your out-of-class experience as meaningful and rewarding as your time in the classroom. Every evening someone is on duty and available in the building. The staff is a resource for you, so please seek them out.
Traditions
Each year, Jessie Doe residents plan and participate in programs that get carried on from one year to the next. In a building as old as Jessie Doe, traditions are a HUGE part of our community. Be on the lookout for these events:
We’re always expanding our programs, so if you
have a tradition you’d like to begin, let a staff or
activity board member know. Everyone can get
involved in putting on events!

Jessie Dough
Be on the lookout for Jessie Dough – it’s study and community “dollars” that your RAs and hall director give out when they spot you doing great things. If a staff member finds you working on homework, tutoring a floormate, or prepping for an exam, you may be rewarded with some Study Jessie Dough.
For attending floor programs, participating in a thought-provoking discussion with your roommate, cleaning up the kitchen or lounge, or hanging out in your room with the door propped open, a staff member may slip you some Community Jessie Dough.
At the end of each semester, we’ll gather in the Main Lounge for dessert and a fantastic auction where you can bid on great prizes. Start saving your Jessie Dough now!
Community Partnership
Students in Jessie Doe regularly volunteer with the Dover Teen Center. Residents go to the Center once a month and put on social programs, serving as mentors and examples to the kids who attend. Once a semester, the youth visit The Doe for a hall-wide barbeque where they can see college life firsthand and recognize that higher education is a possibility.
By working together, we promote both the University’s mission of service and the Department of Residential Life’s standard of community engagement. Residents are highly encouraged to sign-up for visits with the hall staff.
Jessie Doe Activity Board (JDAB)
In high school…
…were you a student leader?
…did you get involved with your student council/government?
…did you plan your prom or senior celebration?
…were you an extracurricular over-achiever?
If
you answered YES to any of those questions, your involvement
can continue here in Jessie Doe.
The Jessie Doe Activity Board (JDAB) meets weekly to plan hall-wide
events.

We’re always seeking new members.
Please note: JDAB is funded by your hall dues,
which are collected during move-in. Please be sure to contribute
so that we can make this year’s programming a success.
Brilliant
and Talented Residents
Jessie Doe’s 140 residents
represent over 30 majors ranging
from Environmental Conservation to Nursing, Hospitality Management
to Occupational Therapy, Engineering to Tourism Planning and
Development.
Nearly a third of our students were on the Dean's List last semester
Testimonial
“I like living in Jessie Doe because of the sense of community. People
really get to know each other and make friends with their neighbors. I
also enjoyed playing ping-pong in
the lounge and cards with my friends. As
for the setup, having four floors is just enough. One more floor and
they would definitely have to install an elevator. However, Jessie Doe's
central location to everything on campus makes an elevator look like a minor
detail.
“Jessie Doe is the perfect size dorm to be able to provide
a very welcoming environment. The sense of community gives
it the family vibe and allows everyone to be their own person,
while simultaneously working together. This has been the
best living experience for me since I moved to UNH!”
