Our Theme is the entire building!
Hubbard Hall is a co-ed residence hall of 210 residents and houses three themes: "Honors", "Making the Grade", and "Think Globally, Act Locally" for first year students.

Hubbard hall in fall of 2008 will be the home of the living/learning floor for first year students called "Think Globally, Act Locally: The Individual in Community Context."  These students will live in Hubbard and take one four credit honors inquiry class together.  Being a part of this community is a great way to get started at UNH.

Why Hubbard?

By Andrew Fox

    • Hubbard is very quiet.

Some people may consider Hubbard too quiet.  At times, the silence can be almost overwhelming with only the typing of keys and scratching of pens to be heard.  Oh, and there’s also the occasional sounds of throbbing base, Super Smash Bros., Journey, and Ridin’, but those are few and far between.  It is a great place to retreat to and get some work done or just have quiet time!

  • 1Hubbard is a very open and friendly community. This is not to say that everyone in Hubbard is an absolute ray of sunshine.  Some residents are a little introverted and quiet, but just let me just say that all the residents I’ve met are downright nice people.

  • Hubbard residents are hardcore students.
Now, we don’t want to generalize, but there are more than a handful of people at Hubbard who live in the study lounge. Even the recreational lounge is occupied by study groups more often than not.  Again, if you want to study, this is the right place to do it.

  • Hubbard isn’t just for Honor Students.
There are plenty of Hubbardians in the Honor’s Program but Hubbard is really a place for people that want to focus on their academics and be around other people who value academics as well.  All are welcome!2

  • There isn’t a lot of drinking in Hubbard.
This isn’t to say that there is absolutely no drinking in Hubbard, or that people in Hubbard don’t drink. It’s just that most Hubbardians choose not to drink and fill their time with positive social activities!

  • There are plenty of eccentric people in Hubbard.
Some would call these people “geeks”, but we in Hubbard prefer the term eccentric, because it infers a wider demographic, and not just people with pocket protectors…Not that we’ve ever seen anyone wear a pocket protector in Hubbard!

  • Hubbard is right next to Philbrook.
Seriously, it’s only about fifty feet away!  I’m not sure how much of an incentive this is for you to live in Hubbard, but it makes a big difference to some people.

  • Hubbard is located near the edge of the UNH campus,
away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets.  There are also a lot of trees, squirrels, and exactly one woodchuck.  We also have a very active volleyball court and a few lots that are great for throwing around the baseball, football, or lacrosse!

  • The Hubbard building is very clean. This is partly due to our excellent housekeeping staff, and partly because Hubbard only has 250-ish residents who, for the most part, are very respectful of the building do not make messes!

  • The floors of Hubbard are co-ed. Hooray!

  • There are a lot of 1337* gamers in Hubbard.

So, if you hunger for some virtual competition, look no further!
*1337 – computer slang for elite, skilled; originally coined by early computer hackers, but also applies to computer and video gamers

Hubbard Socials and Traditions

Hubbard is a close community with lots of fun activities and strong traditions.  Some examples of recent events are….
4Lipsyncs

Talent Shows

Hall Dinners and BBQs

Volleyball Games

S’mores in our fireplace

We also have the Hubbard’s Cupboard which has games for rent and snacks for sale at cost.  It is very popular and you can often find people around the cupboard playing Connect Four, Sorry, or just chatting!

Honors: The Honors theme in Hubbard Hall is specifically for students who have been admitted into the UNH Honors Program. Honors students living together can help to support each other in their academic endeavors.  Also, since this is the Honors Themed Hall, the Honors Program runs many events right here in Hubbard!

Making the Grade: Not in the Honors Program but looking to live with other academically motivated students? This theme is for students interested in living in a place that tends to be more quiet and respectful.

Think Globally, Act Locally: A Learning Community for first year honors students where they are enrolled in a class and living on the same floor.
