Henry Hess
1st Year RA, Williamson Hall
Major/Year: Horticultural Technology/Sophomore

Why did you apply to be an RA?

I wanted to be an RA because I wanted to get involved at my school. As an RA there are endless possibilities to take action in the UNH community and so many opportunities to do things in and around campus. Another reason I got involved was to pay it forward. As a freshman my RA helped me with the transition and I wanted to be able to be there for those coming into UNH as well.

What was the application process like for you?

The application process was not bad at all. You just answer a few questions and the interviews were a good experience.

Has the RA experience been what you expected? Why or why not?

I thought I had a good idea of the job, but I have learned a lot while being an RA that I did not know. So to answer the question no, but it has been positive. I have had a great experience as an RA. I am always learning new and fun things.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being an RA?

The most rewarding part of the job is making lots of friends not only with staff but also with residents. Furthermore, seeing people having pride their community is really rewarding.

What has been the biggest challenge for you?

My biggest challenge has been time management. There is always something to be doing.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming an RA?

Yea it’s a job, but don’t forget to have fun with it. It is a great experience, and there is so much to offer from it. Stop thinking about it and get involved!!!
