UNH has a student governing board in
each residence hall. They are often referred to as Hall
Council or sometimes
an Activity Board.
These boards primarily organize social programs
for their hall with dues that are collected from students in
the building. In addition to building community via programmatic
efforts, hall council also provides opinions for decisions in
which campus administrators are seeking a student voice.
Students living in each residence hall have the opportunity
to volunteer for one of many leadership positions on the council.
Example positions include: president, vice-president, secretary,
treasurer, campus activity board rep, community partnership rep,
and senator. In addition, each floor can have a floor representative
who takes hall council information back to the residents of their
floor.
During the 2003-2004 academic year, hall councils provided
over 242 programs with a total of 8150 students in attendance.
Here’s just a sample of the great programs offered.
Hall Dues:
The Residential Life Staff and building Hall Council work to provide non-alcoholic activities for students in each residence hall. Events might include hall barbeques, ice cream socials, pizza nights, Halloween parties, ski trips, and hiking trips.
Hall Dues are collected during opening as a means to fund these
events throughout the year. Dues are between $25-$30 and are good
for activities for the whole year!
Look for a hall dues table during check-in. |
