Eaton House is the Creative Arts Mini Dorm comprised of many Music Education, Theatre and Art Majors with many other majors represented as well. Students living in this house are interested in writing, music and theater arts. Even if you just like the Creative Arts and don't want to major in it, this may be the place for you.

My name is Lori Costantino, I’m a sophomore and I’ve lived in the Minis Picture of Studentfor two years. My mini of choice is Eaton House, and I love it!
Nobody is denying the fact that there is immense value in having a roommate; however, there are also undeniable benefits to living in a single room. Peace, personal space, and privacy are only some of the perks to singles. But didn’t I get lonely all alone in my single? Never! If the desire for companionship becomes a necessity, I’ve only about 4 feet to walk to enter a world of continuous video gaming, musical jamming, and food cooking. I’m not just bragging when I say that Eaton has the most vivacious lounge atmosphere. Don’t ever think that a single room is going to hinder your social life; there are trips to Boston and the MUB, dorm gatherings and communal romps (puddle-jumping social, anyone?). The single is a necessity for when you’re too exhausted to spend another second with your 45 other dorm-mates.

Going to college is as big of an eye-opener as you’re gonna get, and living in Eaton is even more so! In other, bigger, dorms you won’t find the open doors or engaging companionship. I learned more about my fellow students than I though possible with the first few activities that Eaton did! There is a more open environment for someone to be herself in Eaton; I know majors in Theater, Psychology, Biology, Music, Forestry, Dance, English, and Electrical Engineering. I know straight, gay, lesbian and bisexual students. I know fencers, dancers, actors, rock climbers, mechanics, scientists, video gamers, musicians, skiers, archers and bus drivers. The advantage of living in Eaton is that the community living environment makes it very easy to be whoever you are, and to quickly find people who share similar interests. In my case, it didn’t take me long to seek out the Star Wars geeks and musicians!

Eaton house is the Creative Arts dorm, which means that we revolve around the arts. However, I am pursuing Political Science and Geography majors and the only music I did was play in the UNH Marching Band and Pep Band. You don’t necessarily have to be a music or theater major to be in the dorm, it’s just a way for people of similar interests to live in the same dorm. There are several Political Scientists in this dorm, along with Biology, Psychology, and Chemistry. These are people who just love music and they want to be in a dorm where other people like the same stuff that they do! After a lab you can come back and jam with your friends in the lounge – doesn’t matter if you have a class in music or theater or not. Just hang out with people who share the same interests as you!

Being a resident of Eaton house has been the best experience ever! I came into college thinking I wouldn’t have time to hang out with friends, and that I would be in my single room doing homework all the time. Turns out, I spend less time in my room, and more time in the lounge hanging out with all my friends! Living in Eaton is probably the best choice I could have made for housing. Where most first-year students get put into a huge dorm, with people that are all new to the University, I was placed in a smaller dorm, where I was able to get very close to all the residents within a very short period of time, and also, get to know more about the University from the upperclassmen that I became friends with.

Most of the rooms in Eaton are single rooms. Having a single room is wonderful, because when you needPicture Eaton House Residents study time, or quiet, and want to sleep, or you want to have a small group of friends over, you can, and you don’t need to worry about being in anyone’s way. Then, when you want to be with the rest of your friends, the lounge, especially in my dorm, is almost always abuzz with laughter, talk, and most likely video games. The Upper lounge is great for jam sessions, but also for when you want to have a study group meet, or just a quiet place with lots of space to read or do homework.

A big thing in Eaton is hosting and attending socials, which at first seemed a bit scary to me, but I soon found out that basically, it’s a time to get together and have a blast! These can also be great for getting to know people better, and discovering the diversity of your dorm. Socials I have been to range from All-day movie socials, to Philosophy socials, to discussions on controversial issues on campus.
All-in-all, I would have to say Eaton is the best place on campus to live. You may be farther away from the MUB, but you get closer to the people you are with, and find out more about the campus than if you lived in a freshman dorm. Eaton isn’t just where you live at school, Eaton is your new home.
